It was the first round of the National Mountain Bike XC series last weekend and so Mud, Sweat n Gears rider Amy Jo Hansford began her effort to match or beat her superb performance from last year when she finished 4th overall in the elite ladies class.
Amy Jo has put in a lot of hard work over the winter, training for many hours a week in all weathers but that is no guarantee of a top finish as all the competitors at the highest level of Mountain Biking in the UK are dedicated athletes.
The first round was at Sherwood Pines so after a long journey Amy was determined to make sure she was ready for race day.
A great start saw her set off in third place chasing the two ahead of her and after the first lap Amy was holding a strong 5th place. She managed to consolidate that place over the next 4 laps putting in some solid fast and consistent lap times.
So Amy Jo finished in an excellent 5th place on the day in a very strong field, earning a place on the rostrum and giving her a really good start to her season.
Thanks to Amy for representing Mud, Sweat & Gears at such a high level of the sport and we wish her good luck in the next round in a few weeks time.
